What's Best For Me (End of Real Food Challenge)

Happy Monday!

My week of eating only real food has ended.  Actually, I ended it a day early, because yesterday my kids came home and we had a cook out with all the fixins. :)  My willpower wasn't strong enough not to eat what my family was eating, so I decided to end the challenge a day early.  This was fine for me, because it was just one day, but a disaster for me food-wise.  I am ashamed to say that it lead to a night full of eating all the things that I haven't been eating.  Boy am I paying for it today!  I woke up feeling like I was hit by a truck.  Sick, stomach bloated, fingers and face puffy.  Why do I do this??  I call it my food hang over.  It effects me so negatively, you'd think I would never do it again.....

Anyway, some thoughts about my Real Food Challenge.......

The Positive Stuff:

1.  I felt great and felt like I had more energy.
2.  I felt in control over my food.
3.  My "plumbing" was right on track.
4.  I didn't have to take time to count calories.
5.  I felt like I was doing a good thing for my body.
6.  I lost 5 pounds.

The Negative Stuff:

1.  I didn't have a lot of food variety due to my fussiness
2.  My cravings for sweets and breads didn't stop.
(I only did this for 6 days so maybe it takes time)
3.  I didn't have to count calories.
(I like keeping track....I feel in control when I do)
4.  I had the huge binge because I was withholding foods.
5.  I know I'll gain back the 5 pounds quickly
(if not already after last night)....I usually do after extreme dieting
6.  I missed my chocolate!

What I've Learned.

I've learned that we are all different.  What works for some, doesn't work for others.  I've learned that I need to be in control of my food.  Even if it is allowing my self to eat some sweets, I do it with control, so I don't binge later.  I've learned that I need to fill up on more real foods so there isn't much room for the bad stuff.  And, I've learned that I am loving the person that I am becoming....Strong, determined, and someone willing to admit my failures and just move on without letting it ruin my week.

All in all, I think eating only real food could be a wonderful way to live.  I, for one need a more variety in my diet to survive.  I am almost 50 now you know and I feel like I've earned the right to eat my M&M's and my flavored yogurt every day. :)  I applaud those who can eat this way. I know it is much more healthy for you, and I know people love living this way.   I think I will apply it to my morning and to my lunch, and then eat a normal dinner and have my chocolate later.  I think this will be a good fit for me.  (This was my sister's idea....she's so smart!!)

xoxo

is the one that makes you feel happy and healthy.

  1. I give you props for doing it. I'm gonna say I will probably never even attempt what you did. ha ha ha However, I think my findings would be very similar to yours!

As for the indulgence. I see how food affects me and yet I STILL do it! It blows my mind why we do this stuff!!! :-)

  3. I do better when I allow anything and everything in moderation. I tried to eat clean but I end up feeling deprived and overwhelmed which leads to feeling like a failure. Good job on the 5 lbs!
